Conrad Meyer

Conrad Meyer

Conrad Meyer was apprenticed to his father, the painter and engraver Dietrich Meyer the elder. In the years 1638-1642 he traveled to Bern and Solothurn and to the workshop of Matthäus Merian in Frankfurt. Back in Zurich via Augsburg, Munich and Landshut, the painter, draftsman and etcher created portraits, biblical, mythological and allegorical scenes, battles, views of the Zurich countryside and the Swiss mountains, among other things. In 1645, together with Johann Wilhelm Simler, he founded the «Neujahrsblätter»  of the Zurich library.

Hans Caspar Lang the elder (1571–1645), 1595 Biography

Hans Caspar Lang the elder

The painter and glass painter Hans Caspar Lang d.Ä. was the son of Daniel Lang and is considered the most versatile representative of this Schaffhausen family of artists. His journeyman years took him to Freiburg im Breisgau and Strasbourg and lasted from 1592 to 1595. In 1613 he was given a seat on the Great Council and subsequently held numerous offices. Around 1606 he illustrated the chronicle of Johann Jakob Rüeger and created templates for Caspar Merian's "Topographia Helvetiae" (published in 1642). In 1624-1625 he painted murals for the council chamber of the Schaffhausen town hall with biblical themes and various allegories. 1639-1640 he decorated the Kreuzsaal of the monastery of All Saints with wooden ceiling plaques.
