Daniel Lang

Daniel Lang

The painter and glass painter Hans Caspar Lang d.Ä. was the son of Daniel Lang and is considered the most versatile representative of this Schaffhausen family of artists. His years of wandering, which took him to Freiburg im Breisgau and Strasbourg, lasted from 1592 to 1595. In 1613 he was given a seat on the Great Council and subsequently held numerous offices. Around 1606 he illustrated the chronicle of Johann Jakob Rüeger and created templates for Caspar Merian's "Topographia Helvetiae" (published in 1642). In 1624-1625 he painted murals for the council chamber of the Schaffhausen town hall with biblical themes and various allegories. 1639-1640 he decorated the cross hall of the monastery of All Saints with wooden ceiling plaques.
